We knew each other for many years. He used to come across to me as grumpy, unhappy and sometimes as a mean person. He will be the first to admit that he had shut out the world then.
Somehow I was not surprised when I heard that he had a heart attack and open heart surgery; triple bypass.
I met him a few months after this experience when he was back at work. I saw instantly the difference on his face. He actually looked happy. As we greeted each other, he commented on the sparkles in my eyes. Well….I thought to myself, he is a different man. And it wasn’t the flattering compliment that made me think that. Prior to his surgery he would never noticed such a thing.
Seeing the difference in him I asked, if the whole experience of almost losing his life changed him.
“Of course!” he said.
“So what is it? What makes life different now?”, I asked.
Now I see the glass half full, I appreciate work and all that I have. You’ve got to enjoy it, because you never know when your contract expires.
“Life is a heart to heart situation”
No kidding I thought, how interesting of him to say it… his name is Hart.
Well it took an open heart surgery and a life threatening situation for Hart’s heart to open.
What would it take to open yours?
Today during a phone conversation, I asked him what else you can do these days that you didn’t before?
Well he said I can sing and he started to sing over the phone.
We both laughed..
